Hello, I'm Leigh

I have lived in the Charlotte area since 1979 and in Stallings, Union County for 18 years. I’m a mom to three grown children. My daughter works for a pediatrician, my oldest son is employed by PSA airlines as a flight mechanic and my youngest son is in the US NAVY stationed in Guam. My spouse works for Charlotte Area Transit.

 

One of my passions is art and is how I initially dove into volunteering and working in the community. For a time, I was involved with The NC Print and Drawing Society, a local arts organization. The Society’s focus was to organize exhibits and to keep printmaking and drawing in the appreciative eye of the public.

 

When my children were young, I became very interested in quality food. This led directly to backyard gardening and environmental stewardship efforts. I threw myself into Local Food and Farm to Table initiatives hoping that quality food could be made available to everyone, forever. I served as Earth Day Charlotte during its last year until the County department disbanded the department overseeing the effort. Now I focus my efforts with the Charlotte Chapter of the Citizens Climate Lobby.

 

More recently, I studied and worked with the Cabarrus County Master Gardeners. This led to a stint as the manager of the Piedmont Farmers Market. I have also worked very hard to boost the success of the Union County Farmers Market.

 

In 2009, I was appointed by our Town Council to be on the Stallings Park and Recreation Advisory Board. I was on the team helping to oversee the construction of our Municipal Park and build quality Park programming for our community.

 

In 2016-2017 I became active with the Union County Democratic Party serving as precinct chair for 5 years. I have lobbied elected officials, volunteered many, many hours with local and national campaigns and non-partisan groups such as You Can Vote and Indivisible District 9. Canvassing potential voters is my superpower and I thoroughly enjoy meeting people and having conversations at the door. I am currently serving as our Canvassing Captain for the Voter Outreach Committee of the UCDP.
